Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a great summer! I wanted to introduce myself and give you a little information about me, your 4th grade Math and Science teacher this year. This is my 14th year teaching and every year brings new experiences and excitement. I am so excited to get to know each and every one of you. My name is Mrs. Percvial. Many of you know me as Ms. Arnall. I got married over the summer on the beach in Destin to my husband Jacob. That is why my name changed! I have three kiddos of my own at home. My daughter Morgan is 11 and starting Middle School this year. She loves to bake, create art, and volleyball. My son Cannon is 8 and going into 3rd grade. He likes to play basketball, baseball, and video games of course. And my stepson Benjamin is 5 and starting kindergarten. He likes superheroes, bubble gum, and playing outside. I also joke that we have a zoo at our house because we have our dog, a pug named Charlie, three parakeets that are Morgan's, and Tommy the bearded dragon that is Cannon's. In my free time I love to take care of my garden and flowers. I also really like to do my fingernails, so you might see me with some fun funky colors! I am excited to learn about each of you as the year goes on :)

Welcome Back! 2017-2018
Dear 4th Grader,
I am so excited for this school year! One big change this year for students is that 4th grade is departmentalized. This means that you will have a different teacher for each subject. You will start each day with me in our homeroom, and rotate to each 4th grade classroom throughout the day.
I am Ms. Lindsey Arnall and I will be your homeroom and fourth grade math teacher! Math is my favorite subject and I am so excited to get to teach it to you. I promise math can be fun! This will be my twelfth year teaching. I have taught fourth grade for ten years, and one year in third grade.
Some information about myself is that I graduated from Missouri State University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2006, and then completed my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011. I have a nine year old daughter Morgan who loves to read and play outside. I also have a six year old son named Cannon who loves to play video games and build with Legos. And our furry family member is a pug puppy named Charlie.
Please join me at Meet the Teacher Night where you can come see your classroom, meet me, and drop off your school supplies. Meet the Teacher Night will be Tuesday, August 15th from 6:00-7:00. I hope to see you there! The first day of school is August 17th!!!

WOW!!! Way to go!
The first math test was a HUGE success and I could not be prouder! Thank you to parents and siblings for helping students to practice and be prepared for the test. Overall students did amazing, but as always there is room for improvement. Today in class we reviewed the missed test questions. Students will have the opportunity to improve their score on Monday, testing over ONLY the standards that were not mastered. So study and practice over the weekend and I know you'll do great!

The First Week's Happenings
Parents,
We've had a great first full week in 4th grade. Switching classes is going beautifully and I know I'm enjoying it. I hope the kids are too.
In math this week the biggest thing to be studying is rounding whole numbers to different place values. Please work on this at home with your child. Our first math test will be on Thursday, August 25th.
The librarian, Mr. Stockton, needs our help as well for upcoming projects. Please send in empty butter tubs, or containers similar to that. Empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls, or any smaller empty boxes.
Have a great and relaxing weekend!

Welcome Back 4th Grade!
Dear 4th Grader,
I am so excited for some changes that are taking place this year. The first major change is that I am moving from third grade to fourth grade! I loved them both, but am most excited about being back in fourth grade teaching the subject I love the most.
Some information about myself is that I graduated from Missouri State University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2006, and then completed my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011. Math Practice!
We have been working on counting to 100 as well as creating $1. Some students are just not yet comfortable with counting money, and find it hard to skip count to add coins (ie. 3 dimes is 10, 20, 30, plus two nickles is 35, 40). We are mostly focusing on coins to one dollar.
ABCya! Counting Coins For this: start with the easy level, beginner, and then work your way up.
HbSchool has a very simple interactive counting "game" for quick practice
Khan Academy has another simple interactive counting page that also offers videos for students who get stuck
Practicing is not mandatory, however, some students will greatly benefit from getting some work in. Please also encourage your students to help count coins in real life situations where possible!

Practicing Reading to Someone!
These guys did a GREAT job!! Remember, when reading to someone and buzzing about our reading to:
- Sit EEKK!
- Read Quietly but with Expression!
- One partner is reading aloud, while the other partner is listening and following along.
- Partners help each other with difficult words
- Everyone stays seated, and reads the ENTIRE time!
First Week of School
We are into our first full week of school, and I am so excited about the things I am seeing in class! It's so exciting to see my students learning, talking with one another, and getting along so well. The alternative seating in our room seems to be going well, as long as students continue to make good seating choices I think everyone is going to enjoy it. As agendas come home nightly make sure you are checking them for their behavior color for the day, notes from myself, and be sure to sign it nightly! Here are the learning goals we are currently working:
Reading: Right now, we are working on reestablishing a reading routine at school. We have been working on reading to self, stamina, and creating goals.
Writing: We will be working on writing narrative writing. Narrative writing includes "one time" stories. These are stories that happened to the author, and focus on just a "scene or two".
Math: Our first math unit focuses on place value for two and three digit numbers, money, combinations of hundreds, tens, and ones, and adding and subtracting numbers within 100.
Science: We kick this year off with a weather unit that focuses on the skills of scientific inquiry. The scientific process includes: asking a question, predicting, experiment, recording/observing, and concluding.
Dates to know:
9/4 and 9/7- No school for students!
As always, please contact me for questions!

Dear Third Grader,
I am proud to welcome you to my third grade class this year! My name is Mrs. Lindsey Arnall and this is my tenth year teaching at Willard South Elementary School. The past nine I have enjoyed my time teaching 4th grade, and I am excited that this will be my first year in 3rd grade!
I have spent the summer at the pool and the lake with my family, and even took a few float trips with friends. I hope you all had a wonderful summer as well, and that you are rested and ready to come back for an awesome year! Since this is my first year teaching third grade, I'm pretty excited to learn right along with you. - 3 wide-lined spiral notebooks (red, blue, green)
- 2 boxes of tissues
- 1 pair of pointed scissors

- 2 glue sticks
- 1-inch 3-ring binder (new or used)
- 4 pocket folders with prongs (red, blue, green, yellow)
- 1 pkg colored pencils

Tuesday, August 12th - Meet the Teacher Night 6:00-7:00
- Feel free to bring all your supplies on this night. That way you can claim your space for a few days, and on the first morning of school you won't have too much to bring in.
- Parents you will need to fill out several forms on this night, as well as get information on bus assignments, Tiger Tales, T-shirt and health info.
Thursday, August 14th - First day of School!!!
- Parents, to make the morning transition easier on everyone, please drop your students off at the front of the school. Hopefully having attended Meet the Teacher Night students will be comfortable enough to enter the classroom on their own. Dropping students off at the front of the building ensures their privacy on a sometimes difficult morning. But no fear, I will be here to love on them and make them feel welcome and excited for all there is to come!

Dear Parents,
The past few weeks in our classroom have been a bit difficult. Students are choosing to make poor decisions regarding the technology in our classroom by attempting to visit sites they should not, playing games during work time, and using the computers in inappropriate ways. Many students are also choosing to not follow class and school rules, and are not setting good examples for younger students. Because of these poor choices by many of the friends in our classroom, the use of computers in our classroom is being suspended until further notice.
Please discuss with your child what school rules and expectations are regarding technology as well as school rules in general (working silently, using the restroom appropriately, walking down the hallway, and being kind to others).
Thank You,
Mrs. Arnall

We are in need!
Dear Parents,
Our classroom is in need of dry erase markers! Students in our classroom use dry erase markers daily to practice spelling words, math concepts, and daily review. So if you happen to be out, and can spare the cost of just one package of dry erase markers it would greatly help us out! Thank you in advance.
Spelling Test Tomorrow!
Don't forget to study unit 1 spelling words tonight! Test is tomorrow.
Parents...A few things that might interest you
Grade cards are changing this year...No more A,B,C grades. If you are interested in seeing what that means for your child, click here for a short youtube video on Standards Based Grading.
And, if you have a child in Pioneers, that starts this week! 4th grade will travel to Willard East on Wednesdays.
We Made It!
We've had a GREAT first day in 4th Grade! I had so much fun learning a few new things about each of my students this year, and I know we are going to have so much fun together learning and exploring. Some reminders for tomorrow: 1) Make sure you get your agenda signed tonight by a parent! 2) Bring a snack for tomorrow if you want one. I won't be providing snacks after today. 3) Make sure to take any mail out of your mail folder and share it with mom and dad. 4) Get some rest tonight, and make sure to eat a good breakfast in the morning. |
Dear 4th Grader,
I am so glad you're here! Welcome to our classroom, I am delighted to be your teacher for the 2013-2014 school year. I hope you had a fun and restful summer, I know I sure did!
Some things you might like to know about me is that I have been teaching 4th grade at Willard South for eight years. I like it in 4th grade, I feel at home, and I love all the fun subjects I get to teach. I spent most of my summer playing in the pool with my son who is two, and my daughter who is five. And of course having BBQ's and reading.
In 4th grade you will get to journey along with Lewis and Clark, travel with the pioneers as they head west, and many more special activities.
If you have not already gotten your supply list, here it is:
- 2 packages of 24 count #2 yellow pencils
- 1 pair of adult scissors
- 1 package of colored pencils
- 1 box of tissues
- 1 package of wide-lined loose leaf paper
- 4 wide-lined single subject spiral notebooks
- 1 bottle of school glue or a glue stick
- 4 pocket folders with prongs
- 1 fine point black marker
- 1-inch 3-ring binder (new or used)
- 1 highlighter
- 1 small school box
- 1 box of crayons
Some additional supplies you will need include sharpies, dry eraser markers, and your own personal headphones if you choose.
Meet the Teacher Night is Tuesday, August 13th from 6:00-7:00 pm. You may bring all your supplies with you that night so you can be ready to go the first day of school on August 15th!
I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and I know we have a fantastic school year ahead of us.
Your 4th Grade Teacher,
Mrs. Arnall
